Understanding Trigger History in WeGive

Last updated: February 12, 2026

Overview

The Trigger History feature gives you complete visibility into your automation triggers, showing you every time a trigger fires and whether it succeeded or failed. This helps you monitor your automations and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

What Is Trigger History?

Trigger History is a log of all automation events in your WeGive account. Whenever something happens that activates one of your triggers—like a donation being completed, a form being submitted, or a recurring gift processing—it creates an event log entry.

What You'll See

The Trigger History table displays:

  • Event Type - What kind of trigger fired (e.g., "Payment Success," "Form Submitted," "Recurring Gift Created")

  • Status - Whether the trigger processed successfully or encountered an error

  • Donor Information - Details about the donor associated with this event

  • What Triggered It - Which transaction, form, or action caused the trigger to fire

  • Error Messages - If something went wrong, you'll see specific details about what happened

  • Date & Time - When the event occurred

How to Use Trigger History

Monitoring Your Automations

Check Trigger History regularly to ensure your automations are working as expected. A healthy automation system will show mostly successful events with minimal errors.

Retriggering Failed Events

If a trigger fails (perhaps due to a temporary connection issue with an integration), you can retrigger it to process again:

  1. Find the failed event in your Trigger History

  2. Select the event(s) you want to retrigger

  3. Click the "Retrigger" button

  4. Confirm your selection

The system will create a new event log and reprocess the trigger, which can help recover from temporary issues.

Bulk Actions

You can select multiple events or use filters to retrigger many events at once. This is helpful when you need to:

  • Reprocess multiple failed events after fixing an integration issue

  • Replay triggers for a specific campaign or time period

  • Recover from a service outage

Exporting Data

You can export your Trigger History data for record-keeping or analysis, including setting up scheduled exports with custom filters.

Common Use Cases

Troubleshooting Integration Issues
If donations aren't syncing to your CRM, check Trigger History to see if integration triggers are failing and review the error messages.

Recovering from Outages
If an integration was temporarily down, you can filter for failed events during that time period and retrigger them once the service is restored.

Monitoring Campaign Automations
Track trigger events for specific campaigns to ensure welcome emails, thank you messages, and journey enrollments are firing correctly.

Testing New Automations
After setting up new triggers, check Trigger History to verify they're working as intended.

Tips

  • Set up regular checks of your Trigger History to catch issues early

  • If you see repeated failures with the same error, contact WeGive support for assistance

  • Use filters to narrow down events by date, status, or event type

  • Export historical data before making major changes to your automation setup
