Checkout as Guest: Features & Limitations

Last updated: January 2, 2026

WeGive allows donors to complete a donation using Guest Checkout, meaning they can give without logging in. There are several limitations designed to protect donor security and data integrity when a donor chooses to give as a guest.

This article outlines what is and is not supported when a donor gives as a guest.

Contact & Address Information

When a donor gives as a guest:

  • Mailing addresses are not collected

    • This may result in missing billing or mailing address data for the donation.

  • Donors cannot update existing contact information

    • Name, email, and address details tied to an existing supporter record cannot be edited during guest checkout.

  • These restrictions exist to prevent unauthorized updates to supporter profiles.

Tracking & Reporting Limitations

  • Tracking URLs are not recorded for guest donations

    • This is an intentional design decision and applies to all guest checkouts.

  • Certain reporting or attribution features may not apply

    • Some analytics rely on logged-in supporter sessions to function correctly.

Security Restrictions

For security reasons:

  • Donor information cannot be edited without authentication

    • This ensures donor accounts and personal information remain protected.

Why These Limitations Exist

Guest checkout is intentionally restricted to balance ease of giving with data security. Logged-in experiences unlock additional functionality because the donor’s identity can be safely verified.
