Impact Cards

What Are Impact Cards?
Impact Cards (also called Impact Numbers) are visual cards that show donors the tangible impact of their giving. They translate dollar amounts into meaningful, real-world outcomes that donors can connect with emotionally.
For example, instead of showing a donor that they gave $408, an Impact Card can show them they funded 82 Bibles (at $5 per Bible). This personalized impact display appears on the donor portal and helps drive continued engagement.
Why Impact Cards Matter
They turn abstract dollar amounts into concrete, emotional outcomes for donors
They appear on each donor’s personal portal, making the experience feel tailored
They support both fixed (static) values and personalized (dynamic) calculations
They can be targeted to specific donor segments using audience rules
Types of Impact Cards
WeGive supports two types of Impact Cards. Understanding the difference is essential for setting them up correctly.
Static Impact Cards
A Static Impact Card displays a fixed number that is the same for every donor who sees it. Use these when you want to share an organization-wide milestone or achievement.
Example: “1,200 meals served this year”
Example: “50 wells built since 2020”
The number you enter is exactly what donors will see
Dynamic Impact Cards
A Dynamic Impact Card calculates a personalized number for each donor based on their total contributions. You set the cost per unit, and WeGive divides each donor’s lifetime giving by that amount.
The formula is:
Impact Number = round( Donor’s Total Contributed ÷ Cost Per Unit )

Creating an Impact Card
Follow these steps to create a new Impact Card from the WeGive dashboard.
Step 1: Navigate to Impact Cards
Log in to the WeGive dashboard
Navigate to the Impact Cards section
Click the button to create a new Impact Card
Step 2: Fill in the Basic Fields
The creation form includes the following fields:
Step 3: Configure Audience Rules (Optional)
Audience rules let you control which donors are automatically tagged with this Impact Card. Rules use an AND/OR logic system with rule groups.
Each rule group contains one or more individual rules
Rules within a group can be combined with AND or OR logic
Multiple rule groups are combined using the audience rule group operator (AND/OR)
Rules can filter on donor fields like donation history, demographics, custom fields, and more
Step 4: Publish
Impact Cards have a Published toggle. When you publish an Impact Card:
It becomes visible to tagged donors on their portal
Automatic tagging runs: the system evaluates your audience rules against all existing donors and tags those who match
Only published Impact Cards appear in the donor portal
Managing Donors on Impact Cards
Automatic Tagging
When an Impact Card with audience rules is published, WeGive automatically runs a background job to find and tag matching donors. Here’s how it works:
The system queries all donors in the organization against the audience rules
Donors who match are added to the impact_number_donors relationship table
Already-tagged donors are skipped (no duplicates)
The card’s tagging status progresses: null → processing → processed
Manual Donor Management
You can also manage donors on an Impact Card manually:
Add donors individually or in bulk from the Impact Card detail view
Remove donors using the remove function, which supports filtering and bulk removal
Once a donor is tagged (whether automatically or manually), they remain tagged unless explicitly removed
How Impact Cards Appear to Donors
When a donor logs into their WeGive donor portal, they see Impact Cards in a dedicated section of their profile. Here’s what the experience looks like:
Impact Cards load automatically when the donor visits their profile
Each card displays the card name and the calculated (or static) number
Cards are ordered by creation date, newest first
Only published Impact Cards are displayed
Default Impact Number
Organizations can set a default Impact Number on the Donor Portal configuration. This featured card appears prominently on every donor’s profile and serves as the primary impact metric the organization wants to highlight.
