Add-On Donations During Registration

Last updated: February 25, 2026

Donors can make an additional donation on top of their ticket purchase during event registration. This is optional and configured per event.

How to Enable Add-On Donations

  1. Open the event and go to the Settings tab

  2. Enable Allow add-on donation

  3. Optionally set suggested amounts for the donor to choose from

  4. Save

When enabled, a donation prompt appears on the payment step after the ticket total is shown.

How It Works for Donors

The donor sees a donation field below their ticket summary. They can enter a custom amount or select from suggested amounts. If they leave it blank or enter $0, no additional donation is made.

The add-on donation is processed as part of the same transaction as the ticket payment — one charge total.

How Add-On Donations Are Recorded

The ticket payment and add-on donation are recorded as separate transactions in WeGive:

  • Ticket payment → recorded as an event transaction

  • Add-on donation → recorded as a standard gift against the organization's default fund (or a configured fund)

Things to Watch For

  • Discount codes do not apply to add-on donations — only to ticket prices.

  • If the registration is refunded, the add-on donation is not automatically refunded. It must be refunded separately.

  • Fund assignment for add-on donations is set at the event level. Confirm the correct fund is configured before the event goes live.
