Date and Time Issues in Virtuous Integration

Symptoms

Donation dates or timestamps appear incorrectly in Virtuous after syncing from WeGive. Common patterns include:

  • Donations made late in the day (after 4pm PST) appear in Virtuous with the following day's date instead of the correct donation date

  • Financial export reports show incorrect AM/PM timestamps, displaying AM when the donation actually occurred in the PM

Root Cause

This is a known timezone handling issue with how donation timestamps are converted during the sync from WeGive to Virtuous. Late-day donations in Pacific time can cross the UTC date boundary, causing them to appear as the next day in Virtuous.

Current Status

This issue has been partially addressed with system updates. Fixes include corrections to date accuracy for late-day donations and changes to daily export reports to show dates in PST without time components to eliminate AM/PM confusion.

However, based on recent reports, the fix may not be fully resolved in all cases. If you are still experiencing date discrepancies on new donations, please contact WeGive support with specific examples so we can investigate.

What You Can Do

For new donations: Monitor donations made after 4pm PST to verify they appear with the correct date in Virtuous. If you see incorrect dates on new donations, report them to WeGive support with the donation details from both WeGive and Virtuous.

For historical donations: Donations processed before the fix was applied will retain their original (incorrect) dates. These will not be automatically corrected. To fix historical data, you can filter payments in WeGive that occurred after 4pm PST and manually edit those gift dates in Virtuous to reflect the correct day.

How to Test

If you want to verify whether the fix is working for your account:

  1. Process a test donation after 4pm PST

  2. Check that the donation appears in Virtuous with the correct date (same day as the donation, not the following day)

  3. Verify that export reports show the proper date without confusing AM/PM timestamps
